Who knew the answer would be so simple...

I love escaping into my collection of vintage magazines.  Reading a "Can This Marriage Be Saved?" column from the late '50s will certainly give you a little perspective on how different things were back then.  Even having said that, and the fact that my mom has shared with me how things really were and, yes, watching Mad Men and seeing what woman went through in the workplace - even with all of this evidence I still think I was born a couple of decades too late.  As you can see in this ad from my June 1965 Ladies Home Journal, all I needed was an electric fry pan to cure what would have ailed me as a mid-century housewife!  Well, that and a valium.

There's a 50's movie that may have inspired Mad Men.

June Allyson plays that woman you think you would have been.
Swing by imdb.com and check it out
(you'll probably bump into me there - I hope I remembered it correctly)

(2. I followed you here from Parker was a gunslinger blog)

be smart if I mentioned the title I'm worried about recalling correctly -
It's A Womans' World.

Phew! I went to imdb - the film had six writers yet there are no 'memorable quotes' listed in the usual place.

If I hadn't seen it, albeit years ago, I wouldn't recognise it from the imdb profile.
I just know it's a retro Mad Men and June Allyson and Lauren Bacall play wives very dissimilar.

Thanks for your comments! I think I have seen this also. I think I must've caught part of it on TCM or something because the Lauren Bacall thing sounds familiar. I couldn't find it on Netflix, so I guess I'll have to wait for TCM to play it again.
